Opinion: We Need More Fall

Dressed up in it's Fall finest

We need more Fall in our lives.  We need more time to enjoy that burst of color before the long tyranny of winter sets in. Those autumn colors of red, yellow, and orange catch our eye and lift our spirits as we drive to and from school and work.

But sadly, fall feels like a tiny blip on the weather radar. Fall is winter’s sad little doormat. Just about the time we have grown accustomed to the beauty of the season and started to enjoy our pumpkin spice everything, winter sends a jealous wind to rip the leaves from their anchors. Too soon the trees are bare, and the sky and our mood turn gray.

We need more fall to discover the beauty in the trees and the sparkle in the eyes of passing strangers because too soon we have to bow our heads and turn up our collars against the frosty fingers of winter.

Last year I missed the cut off date to place my order for an extended Fall but not this year. This year I am ready. I have proactively placed my order and just to make certain there is no slip up, I have doubled down with a back up order.

Sorry boots, big bulky coat and questionable matching hat but you must stay in your basement bin just a little bit longer. Congratulations flannel shirts, light layers and fall accessories, you get to strut your stuff for a few extra weeks.

So when you are strolling along your tree lined street late into December, enjoying the abundance of Autumn color while sipping your pumpkin spice latte, frappuccino or cold brew (extra pumpkin cream cold foam of course), and you catch sight of me, feel free to wave and thank me for remembering to order up more Fall.
